Jo and Steve

25th March 2017 was a beautiful summer day but at 2.30pm it was just about to become magical. I entered the Sunken Gardens at UWA all ready to set up my gear and get the legal paperwork ready on the signing table when in wandered Joanne looking so relaxed and radiant, a total beauty. Her dress was stunning!

I was so surprised to see her! The bride and groom had decided to have their photos done prior to the ceremony and it was all done, so they were just chilling out before the formalities began. I have never seen such a relaxed couple which was just them to a ‘T’.

The Sunken Gardens was just a picture – every way you turned you were greeted with the richness of the leafy green trees, bushes and flowers all bowing and slightly swaying in the breeze. The sun shone brightly upon us and twinkled through the shade. The scene was set in utmost perfection.

When I first met Stephen and Joanne, for a meeting to see if I was the right fit for them, it was at a funky café in Leederville where all the hipsters hang out. Stephen was so easy going and relaxed while Joanne just oozed excitement. I too became excited about their wedding and was crossing fingers I had impressed them enough to be chosen to be their celebrant. I did, and I was.

So the Ceremony started at the exact minute it was booked, 2.30pm. Stephen and his groomsmen congregated at the arbour with me, while the guests were seated and then the bridal party glided down the stairs to the Sunken Garden. It was truly a beautiful moment when Joanne appeared with a very proud father.

The Ceremony was just like the couple, honest and heartfelt. We had a few laughs in the ceremony as we told their love story and finished it all off with a Ribbon Ceremony – a modern ritual that included some of the special people in their lives.

After the ceremony the guests all just hung out and enjoyed nature’s little outdoor gift while they sipped cocktails, champagne and nibbled on edible art!
